SUBFLOORS

THE RIGHT CHOICE OF SUBFLOOR

Subfloors must provide a level, compact, uniform and stable base to the screed that will be laid on top of them. In most cases subfloors are used in domestic buildings to cover plumbing, electrics and so on.

The main features of a subfloor are:

  • Lightness, so as not to weigh on the floor's static load
  • Mechanical resistance, to protect systems from excess deterioration while plastering is done
  • Durability
  • Low cost of installation
  • Thermal conduction, as required by standard UNI 1091 and UNI EN 1264 if the floor is to be heated.

Lightweight subfloors are also useful for creating gradients on flat roofs, which can then be cladded with bitumen. The subfloor results in new standards for the screed, as follows:

  • Lightweight (under 300 kg/sq m–800 kg/sq m)
  • Lightweight (over 800 kg/sq m)
